City and county officials began converging on Vivian B. Adams School at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, joining key leaders of local organizations, the Carroll High School Jazz Band, cheerleaders from four of Dale County’s five high schools, area queens, United Way committee members, and VBAS students and staff. The Raygene Burkett Activity Center filled quickly as everyone awaited the arrival of the Wiregrass United Way (WUW) Campaign Kick-Off Bus Tour.
The tour began at 9 a.m. with its first stop in Abbeville, moved on to Eufaula at 10 a.m., and then headed to Dale County and Ozark for its 11:30 a.m. stop at VBAS. Each year, the excitement is palpable — “the best stop on the Wiregrass” is how Dale County's stop is often described — bringing a sense of celebration to the six-county region WUW serves.
